I love river cruising! No matter what river I’ve cruised, I think it is an excellent vacation. You can sit in a lounge chair and watch the beautiful scenery go by.
Your ship stops at the picturesque towns, and you can walk right into the middle of a town that was built in 1100A.D.It is and up close and personal way to see Europe.
This summer we took an Avalon River Cruise down the Rhone. After a couple of delightful days in Paris , we boarded the train to Lyon and then drove to Chalon-sur-Saone. Our group boarded the Avalon Affinity and for the next seven days sailed down the Soane and the Rhone. Each town or city was a jewel.
The food was wonderful. The chef prepared local specialities and used fresh food from the towns along the way. One night we had a local expert who presented a cheese tasting and talked about the making of good French mustard. It was delicious! Here is one of the cheese appetizers that our chef prepared for us – Deep-Fried-Breaded Camembert. Click on the link below for the recipe.
